The undisputed first and most legendary DJ of all time. This Superstar boasts a resume DJs only dream of. A visionary turned iconic pioneer, Keoki spearheaded a movement spawning the growth of electronic music around the world. DJ Keoki arrived on the mainland with merely forty records, a bag of clothes and $200, without an inkling he would go on to become a key figure to a groundbreaking social movement. As an Artist whose music would shreds the sonic spectrum, Keoki longed to transcend old ways. Keoki was destined to make a name for himself.
Born in El Salvador, raised on Maui and nicknamed for the mysterious bastard son of a legendary Hawaiian king, Keoki arrived on the mainland US in the late 80s. Landing a job with TWA in NYC enabled Keoki the opportunity to travel the world free. It was while moonlighting as a busboy for Danceteria (a hot Manhattan nightclub), that Keoki witnessed the sights and sounds that would change his life . . . perhaps even the future of music.
Fascinated by the powerful connection a DJ is able to conjure with the crowd, Keoki began to play records himself. Taking care to put his own distinctive spin on another artist's music was paramount. Flamboyant as hell, he dubbed himself 'Superstar DJ' Keoki and states, "...I wore a jeweled crown, big furry collars and gold chains. It was all a gimmick, but the fun of it really caught fire".
Though it started as a lark, 'Superstar DJ Keoki' quickly became sought after by many of Manhattan's underground trendsetters and top socialites alike. Keoki was now known as "The DJ to the Stars!". He worked legendary parties for the likes of Lou Reed, Deborah Harry, Drag Queen icon RuPaul and The B-52's. "All the glamorous stars and creatures of New York were there", he says.
The former baggage handler soon became a jetting-setting commodity as he began performing to massive audiences across America as well as overseas. It was a sonic sleight-of-hand in which Funk meets Punk. An intersection were barking Scooby Doo would mix perfectly with an ever ranting Jimmy Swaggert. Keoki continued to discover dramatic new ways in which he could keep the crowd right in the palm of his hands. "NY really showed me I could draw on anything around me and make something of it. There were just no limits".
By early nineties, the underground Dance music scene had swelled to a critical mass. The rave scene in America had been born. As one of the very first traveling DJs, Keoki was quickly propelled into the Limelight. Through numerous performances at LA raves, Keoki caught the attention of Moonshine Music President Steve Levy. It was his personality, flamboyance, showmanship and abundant musical talent that led to Keoki joining forces with Moonshine. Although signed as a Recording Artist, Keoki's immediate skill set lay squarely in his ability to DJ. As a result, a slew of top selling mix albums were released. The extensive discography includes such titles as "Superstar DJ Keoki -All Mixed Up", "Disco Death Race 2000", "Kill The DJ", "Ego Trip" and many more. Keoki continues to release music with new tracks like "I Am", "Sleeze", "Ono, It's the End of the World As We Know It."
Between releases, merch, and sold out performances, Keoki began crafting original material. Keoki's message began to shine as brightly as a welder's arc. "This generation, this Rave culture is so highly intuitive. Communicating to them through pure sound is absolutely possible. Since I had their attention, I figured why not take it a little farther and give them a story, a theme?" It was then, that Keoki the pied piper was born.
On his first single, Keoki teamed with co-producer Dave Audé for what evolved into an incredible Artist / Producer journey. "Caterpillar" was created and thus released in 1996. It featured a catchy chorus that states, "I just can't cope without my dope." A hook that made almost playful mockery of drug misuse. Blazing to #3 on Billboard's Dance Chart, the song earned Keoki a spot on the prestigious lineup of Lollapalooza's tour that summer. The track was so hot, it was even featured in season seven's episode 22 of The Simpsons titled "The Curse of the Flying Hellfish."
Follow-up track entitled "Majick" released in 1997, signaled a precursor to the almost finished full length LP "Ego Trip." The lyrics that were suggestive of a communal euphoria his audience sought, could only have come from the "magic" within the listener themselves. It too, abruptly rocketed along the charts. By this time, Keoki had moved from NNY to LA (via Denver), and Keoki's album was now sharply in motion. Three short months later, "Ego Trip" was completed at last. It proved to be nothing less than a stunning leap, even for someone whose name was seemingly already synonymous with breathtaking invention.
From the harrowing, multi-layered track "Madness" to stellar hit singles "Caterpillar," "Majick," and the aural sex drive of "Space", "Ego Trip" contains ten tracks that are a seamless musical excursion. It is clear that they carry the listener effortlessly from one hook to the next. With trance-inducing synth-lines, mega-ballistic break-beats and carbonated vocals, "Ego Trip" crackles with energy. "Ego Trip" was the first full-length album of all original material by Keoki. He was a performer who (until then), had been primarily recognized as one of America's top seated premiere Electronic Music Mix Masters.
Whether a longtime fan or completely new to his Art form, this is an aural experience the likes of which one cannot imagine. Built from the Underground up, "Ego Trip" is a virtual wildly wonderful fun-house ride. It is an album in which Keoki injects everything he has, making sure to leave it laid out on the dance floor. "Ego Trip" is the every bit the culmination of Keoki's unique audio odyssey beginning decades ago. This Superstar DJ is no stranger to pouring everything he has ever learned about sound and its ability to captivate a crowd into the very core of his album's tracks.
Every generation produces a key performer who, by the sheer force of their talent and personality, pushes a new art form into acceptance by the masses. For the increasingly influential realm of electronic music, Keoki is that key. "Ego Trip" is his breakthrough. He states, "this is the beginning of a whole new kind of musical expression".
With over two and a half million records sold... (Limelight, Kill the DJ, Journeys By DJ: Keoki, Party Monster, Ego Trip and more), to his regular listings at the top of numerous Dance music charts . . . Keoki has evolved into a record spinner of international renown. He has lovingly been dubbed everything from the charismatic "Bad Boy of Techno," to "Superstar DJ." One thing is for sure, he is a figurehead of the vital, yet often infamously controversial Rave movement. The mere fact that Keoki can claim Bart Simpson is among his fans, is a resounding testament to his appeal and staying power. It does not get any better than this.- Director

Christian Blaze was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America in 1979. Amid the country's bitter civil war, his family fled to Canada in 1986, where Christian spent most of his childhood studying computers & electronics. He created his first software program at the age of 9 and sold his first program commercially at the age of 14, after returning to El Salvador in 1994.
In 1999, after graduating from high school and studying at the University of Central America (UCA), Christian returned to Vancouver, BC, and began his acting career at The Gastown Actors Studio under the direction of veteran instructor Mel Tuck. After graduating in 2001, Christian met his wife & future co-producer Crystal-Dawn Rosales on the set of a VFS student film, and the couple tied the knot shortly after.
In May 2003, Christian starred in the couple's directorial debut "SPANK" (2003). The short film went on to premiere at the 2003 Santa Fe Film Festival, and screened at over 20 other festivals in the 2004/2005 circuit, receiving impressive audience reactions and reviews. The film was later licensed to the CBC and aired in the spring of 2005 on the national network's late night ZeD TV program.
In April 2004, Christian & Crystal incorporated their new media company, Crystal Insight [ca] and began production on their first feature, a sci-fi thriller entitled "Alien Agenda: Project Grey" (2007). The film acquired initial DVD distribution in Japan, Russia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam & in the USA on VOD, but after several years in circulation the directors decided to re-cut the film in 2010. The director's cut of "Project Grey" was released in 2011 at the 6th annual Int. Sci-Fi & Fantasy Film Fest in Athens, Greece, and screened at several cult film festivals before finding a home with a new distributor (Reality Ent.) in the USA.
In the spring of 2010, Crystal Insight's first Stereoscopic 3D short film, a comedy entitled "Defending Maldito 3D" (2011) was produced. The film took Christian's acting in a new direction, playing a comedic latino gang member seeking some much needed legal advice. Christian required 8 hours in the spfx makeup chair, having custom tattoos painted all over his body & shaved head. "Defending Maldito 3D" was released on Oct 9th, 2011 as one of the first stereoscopic films on YouTube's new 3D platform. By this time, Christian was so heavily involved in the directing, editing & VFX of their own projects that he began to receive offers for other commercial projects around the world. This eventually resulted in him taking a break from acting to pursue work in directing, producing, visual effects and post-production.
In early 2012, Christian started working at Gloo Studios, where he embarked on his professional VFX career. During this time he earned compositor credits on episodes of "Edge of War" (Military Ch.) and "The Incredible Crew" (Cartoon Network) in addition to several CollegeHumor viral shorts such as "Batman vs. Scarecrow", "John Mayer's Hologram" and "Sherlock Blue's Clues" starring Thomas Middleditch. By late 2012, Christian quickly moved onto VFX Supervision at GFZ Studios, where he supervised a team of VFX artists on 60 shots for the Chinese feature "Switch" (2013) starring Andy Lau. Other VFX Supervisor credits include; Hallmark Channel's "A Bride for Christmas" (2012), Carl Bessai's remake of "Embrace of the Vampire" (2013), David Rosenthal's thriller "A Single Shot" (2013) starring Sam Rockwell, and the vfx breakdown for "Final Girl" (2015). Other VFX career highlights include; developing the pipeline and VFX / editing process for 180 degree flying theaters, editing and VFX Supervising for the 4D attraction "FlyOver Canada" (2013) and an entire season of VFX Artist work on the hit TV series "Supernatural" (2013-2014) for 23 episodes.
On January 21st, 2014, Christian and Crystal welcomed their daughter Lyra Aurora Blaze into the world. Shortly after her birth, they created the politically charged TV series "Death Row Democracy" (2015) starring indie darling Tristan Risk. The show's theme song "Uh OH" was mixed & recorded by Christian using a pseudonym, along with several talented musicians performing on the track, marking his venture into electronic music producing.
In late 2014, Crystal Insight, in conjunction with HTC, produced a series of 12 commercial spots shot in Vancouver BC, promoting the Eye Experience software upgrade, and the M8 and Desire Eye mobile devices. Christian starred in 2 out of the 12 commercials alongside his (real-life) 8 month old daughter Lyra, marking his return to the screen. Christian also co-directed, edited and VFX supervised the HTC commercial series, which also featured the family's cat, Khaleesi, in the #1 aired spot "Split Capture Cat".
Most recently as CEO and CTO of Crystal Insight, Christian has been busy developing AURORA, a blockchain powered royalty payment system for the film industry. A prototype of the system was successfully launched on Dec 21st, 2015 with the release of the 90 sec series intro for "Death Row Democracy". Christian is currently working on developing the beta version of AURORA, in addition to several other ventures and projects that merge filmmaking with cutting-edge technology. Christian is a dual Canadian / Salvadoran citizen, speaking fluent English and Spanish, in addition to several programming languages.- Roza Calderon was born on 7 April 1985 in San Vicente, El Salvador. In 1983, Council For Positive Images and Meta/4 Productions' founder, Terry Carter (the first Black news reporter and co-star of the original Battlestar Galactica television series), casts Carla Portillo at age 15 in the lead role as Liz for a dramatic television miniseries K*I*D*S. The acting role allowed her to sign with the now-defunct, but then top Hollywood children's talent agency, Kelman/ Arletta and Associates. In 1985, K*I*D*S wins an Emmy Award for Best Series for Children and Youth.
Born in San Salvador, El Salvador in 1967, Carla immigrates to join her parents in Los Angeles in 1972. Raised in Hollywood, Carla attends the local public schools and quickly learns English. At Le Conte Middle School, she is a student in Mr. Robert Crumb's well-known drama class. After her unsuccessful acting tryouts for larger or lead roles in school plays, she is undeterred and auditions for Terry Carter and his production company when they visit Mr. Crumb's drama class. Finally, she gets a good part - the lead role in K*I*D*S.
With countless auditions under her belt, Carla is rarely hired. Her "look" is unconventional for television. Her beloved agent, Toni Kelman who years before represented four of the six Brady Bunch kids, confirms this by sending Carla to auditions for any ethnic or non-ethnic roles alike.
In the mid-to-late 1980s, Carla lands a few speaking roles on prime-time television. She plays Emita on Trapper John, M.D.-Strange Bedfellows (1986), a witness on Hunter-Playing God (1987), and Chata on her last acting role in 1988 on the TV series Police Story-Burn Out with leading actress, Lindsay Wagner. Carla also works on other television dramas like The Judge-a dramatized court show, and a daytime soap opera in a guest role. And for many years, visitors to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles watched an introductory video in which Carla played a student.
Her parents, however, lacked enthusiasm for the whole acting experience, even if it helped the family financially. They worried about Carla going astray or associating with the wrong Hollywood crowd. Their vision for her is to attend college, and keep a strong sense of family. Other concerns of theirs included the stereotypical roles available to her - the gang member's girlfriend, or a troubled, suicidal, sometimes pregnant teenager.
Playing Liz was a role of a lifetime for Carla - not only because she was a regular American teenager one day, and the next a television actress - the role itself was ahead of its time. Broadcast on KCET, Los Angeles in 1984, K*I*D*S is created to teach and show diverse ethnicities in a positive light and focus on creating role models for school children. While Carla's "look" deemed unconventional for Hollywood in the 1980s, she represented the growing, diverse Latinx population, highly underrepresented in film and television during that time-an issue that remains relevant today.
Carla did not seek another talent agent after she grew out of the children's agency. She graduated from Fairfax High School in 1985 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications - Radio, Television & Film. She made a career in creative services working her way up to Creative Director, successfully adding nearly 100 titles to her credit under Warner Bros., Rhino, Paramount and other studios for various Home Entertainment and digital marketing projects.
All that said, Carla is not the first Salvadoran to walk away from a Hollywood career, Maribel Arrieta in the mid-1950s walked away from a Hollywood contract - but Carla is the first Salvadoran-born actress on American prime-time television.- Isabella García-Manzo was born on 10 December 2002 in San Salvador, El Salvador.
